    Eskişehir Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences, founded in 1958, formed the basis of Anadolu University. The Academy was replaced by Anadolu University in 1982, which has gained a well-deserved place as a modern, dynamic and innovative institution among the largest universities not only in Türkiye, but also in the world.

    Kısa adıyla BAP (Bilimsel Araştırma Projeleri), yüksek öğretim kurumlarındaki bilimsel araştırmaların desteklenmesi amacıyla geliştirilmiş bir uygulamadır. Bu uygulama YÖK'ün 01.01.2002 tarihinden geçerli olmak üzere yürülüğe aldığı Yükseköğretim Kurumları Bilimsel Araştırma Projeleri Hakkında Yönetmelik uyarınca gerçekleştirilmektedir. Üniversitemizin tüm öğretim elemanları BAP Komisyonuna başvurarak bilimsel araştırmaları için kaynak alabilirler.

    At Anadolu University, social and cultural activities are as important as education and scientific research. The University frequently holds scientific events such as conferences, seminars, panels, congresses and symposia, and cultural activities such as exhibitions, stage performances and concerts. In addition to smaller conference halls in each unit, Atatürk Culture and Arts Center, Congress Center and Cinema Anadolu on Yunusemre Campus house many activities throughout the year.

Learning Outcomes

  • 1. Explain the basic approaches (critical and liberal approaches), orientating the field of mass media studies. 1.1. State the intellectual expansions belonging to liberal approaches about the field of media. 1.2. Express the contributions of critical approach to the field. 1.3. Restate the fundamental differences and similarities between critical and liberal approaches.
  • 2. Explain the basic concepts, background and historical classifications of critical approach. 2.1. Describe the basic concepts used by the critical approach about media. 2.2. Express the background of which critical approach make use for the assessments about media within an interdisciplinary perspective. 2.3. Explain the differences of critical approaches within its own space and attitudes to media in the historical process.
  • 3. Analyse the fundamental different points and specifications of every single approach constructing critical paradigm. 3.1. Debate the “culture industry” concept of Frankfurt School (Echole Frankfurt ) about media. 3.2. Interpret the langue/speech of media texts and their evaluation by semiotical overview. 3.3. Express the “Cultural Studies” approach's of being text centered and language centered, audience focused and reproduction of ideology. 3.4. Explain the critical economical politics approache’s production based overtures, primarily ownership structures of media. 3.5. Debate the post-structualist approache’s the concept of othering and representation axises considering media.
  • 4. Evaulate the the critical approach’s view about the media environment as a whole at the levels of product, production and consumption. 4.1. Considering the economical politics of media, explain the production phase of media industries. 4.2. Interpret the media texts produced in the media industries as a whole. 4.3. Evaluate the issue of how the media texts received by the audiences.
  • 5. Evaluate the theoretical principles of critical approach, adopting them media milieu in Turkey. 5.1. Interrogate the operating of media industry in Turkey. 5.2. Interpret the media industry in Turkey at the levels of production, text and consumption. 5.3. Construct/design proposals for new models despite the negativenesses of media industry in Turkey.
