One of the oldest buildings of early Republican Era in Eskişehir, this
historical building was restored following its allocation to Anadolu
University and opened as "Cumhuriyet Museum" on April 23rd 1994.
The malicious attempts of western imperialist forces to invade and totally destroy Ottoman Empire during the World War I were stopped by determined and committed Turkish nation including all civilians and military forces under the legendary leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Later, these forces replaced Ottoman Empire with modern, democratic, secular and independent Turkish Republic. This museum exhibits this magnificent history through factual documentation. In the museum, there are 130 photographs about the foundation of Turkish Republic and 51 Atatürk portraits representing different periods of his life.
The museum also includes a considerable amount of ethnographic artifacts found in Eskişehir region as well a comprehensive library for the researchers studying on recent history. The most valuable books in this library are the ones donated by Prof. Dr. Emre Kongar.
