Biology as a multidisciplinary science is strongly interrelated with the basic sciences of physics, chemistry and mathematic. The principles of these basic sciences together with the fundamentals of biology that apply to understanding of living organisms and systems reflects on the courses offered in the Biology undergraduate program. The undergraduate curriculum focuses the general biology teaching with courses related biology, zoology, ecology, plant biology, evolution and molecular biology. The main goal of this curriculum raise biologists to be able to elucidate fundamentals of biology for humankind's better living without causing environmental damages. Biology is in an explosive developmental phase by which it will certainly create many fascinating jobs for the coming generation. Biology has a number of subfields where you could specialise to become an expert.

PROGRAMS OFFERED
B.S. (Bachelor of Science) For B.S. (Bachelor of Science), students are selected by National University Entrance Examination (Student Placement Exam, OSS). About 50 students are admitted each year. Normal duration is 4 years for biology education. Students must take and pass all necessary courses and reach a minimum GPA (Grade Point Average) of 2.00 before he/she graduate. The minimum attendance to lectures and laboratories is 70%. The official language of teaching is Turkish but some courses is offered in English. Students who fail to pass an English Level Test must attend a one-year English Preparatory School and pass it before taking the department courses.
M.Sc. (Master of Science) The students will be required to take courses and to prepare and orally defend a thesis based on their research. Students require approximately two years to complete the Master of Science degree.
Ph.D. (Doctorate of Philosophy) The Doctorate degree requires course work and thesis research. The students must conduct original research and prepare a thesis, then make an oral defense of their completed research. Students require about four years beyond the Master's degree to complete a Ph.D. program.
